TOKYO -- Mitsubishi Motors aims to highlight its crossover prowess at this year's Tokyo auto show with a low-slung "flagship" concept.
The coupelike e-Evolution Concept blends the Japanese carmaker's four-wheel-drive system and electric powertrain knowhow with artificial intelligence, the company said.
The name is in a nod to the performance heritage of the Lancer Evolution street racer.
Mitsubishi called the concept a "beacon" of renewed ambition for the company, which was bought last year by rival Nissan Motor Co. after being enveloped in a faked fuel economy scandal. The Tokyo show, it said, will be a "milestone event" in the carmaker's revival.
A teaser image of the e-Evolution shows a steeply sloped rear window and pinched rear end flanked by a narrow, three-pronged wraparound tail lights. A heavy crease stretches down the side of the vehicle, while the C-pillar appears to get a floating look.
Press days for the Tokyo auto show begin Oct. 25.
